frequently asked questions

Q: Where do you take the cast?

Depending on your location, you may like to visit us or we can arrange to make a home visit. There is a £35 + vat call out charge for London areas. We can also send you a kit, with lots of materials and instructions. You make the moulds and send them back to us. Then at our studio, we cast these pieces into your material of choice. As soon as we receive the moulds, we will contact you to let you know and we can email pictures to you.

Q: What if we are not sure what we want?

If you are planning a piece/pieces  in metal or glass, we can make a few moulds, and then email you pictures  of the pieces in wax for you to look at and choose.

Q: Is casting safe for children?

First Impressions take your cast in a simple and safe way.
The moulds are made with an absolutely safe, medically approved material. Once mixed, the mould sets within a minute , making the whole process fast, safe and fun. .

Q: How long does it take?

Making the moulds takes just minutes.
Different materials take varying lengths of time to be finished.
For bronze and crystal, allow between 8 – 10 weeks,

Nickel, Silver and Gold plated Bronze 8-12 weeks
Sterling Silver, between 8-12 weeks.
Resins and Plaster take just  2weeks.

Q What if I need them sooner?

When there is not enough time for your piece to be completed, we can make you a special ‘the best is still to come’ little fragment of your piece, in aluminium resin, to attach to your card.

Q: What happens after you take the cast?

Once we’ve made the moulds, we make a wax impression in the studio, and then make a silicone mould to ensure the safety of your pieces, before we cast them into metal or crystal.

Q: How can you safeguard the fragility of the glass pieces?

Since we have made a permanent silicone mould, we give you an extra copy in resin.

Q: How would I go about developing a tailor made sculpture?

You can either come to our studio to get inspiration from our gallery or we can discuss ideas with you over the phone.

Q: What methods of delivery do you use to transport the finished pieces?

We either post the items to you by Parcelforce, or you can collect from our studio.
